OVERVIEW

Your trip to Korea is not complete without experience the Korean culture and traditions by yourself. For avid Korean lovers, of course, you know about a destination that is said to be the oldest city in Korea which is Jeonju.

Jeonju is called the city of thousands of years for a specific reason. In terms of its flow of history, rich in traditions and heritage that are preserved until today. The city continues to develop in line with modernization but also retains its historical value. Therefore, I have prepared a complete guide for your reference in the future!

WHERE TO STAY

LAHAN HOTEL JEONJU

I had the opportunity to stay here for a night. The perfect location in the middle of Hanok Village is one of the main reasons this hotel often becoming the top choice among local tourists. Not only their beautiful selection of rooms with Hanok'sview but also excellent service, featured swimming pool, cafe and a great restaurant with succulent buffet breakfast!

WHAT TO SEE

#1 Gyeonggijeon Shrine

Gyeonggijeon Shrine was built about 600 years ago and holds the portrait of King Tae-jo, who founded the Joseon dynasty. The structure was partially destroyed during the war and restored in 1614.

Located inside the area of Jeonju Hanok Village makes it a must-visit place to visit if you are in Jeonju. Side note, this is also the shooting location for Park Bogeum's famous drama "Moonlight Drawn by Clouds". Change to Hanbok and roaming around the shrine cannot be perfect! There are many photo spots for your Instagram posts! :'D

#2 Jeonju Hanok Village

This is the largest Hanok Village in Korea which incorporates more than 800 Korean traditional houses. It was autumn2018 when I visited Jeonju for the first time. I only wandering the main road without passing through the small alleys. Recently, during my visit, I had a proper tour of this village and I was so surprised by how charming was every alley in this village!

There are several bookstores, gift shops, cafes, dessert shops, restaurants, street food stalls, exhibition halls, and museums in this village. Honestly, I did not feel like my picture giving justice to the beautiful village. It looks prettier! Make sure to see it with your own eyes. I feel like this village was even prettier when the sundown and bright bulb light up the street.

Address: 99, Girin-daero, Wansan-gu, Jeonju-si, Jeollabuk-do

#3 Traditional tea experience

I was in Jeonju with #wowkoreasupporters and being part of Korea Tourism ambassador, we attended a traditional tea ceremony in Jeonju Hanok Village. it was a great honor to meet the grandson of the last emperor of the Joseon Dynasty, 이석 선생님 (Yi Seok Seonsaengnim). We had some house brewing tea, beautiful and delicate desserts, snacks for the ceremony.

Greeted him in person for a picture, he is a person with a great sense of humor, loves classical songs, and even sang a song for us. The ceremony is held in his garden and it was splendid and beautiful.

#4 Jeolla Gamyeong Night Tour

Jeolla Gamyeong is the Joseon Dynasty Government Complex that consists of Administrative, Judiciary, and Military affairs of Jeolla Province and Jeju Island. In October 2020 the complex was restored with seven important buildings.

The night view of a beautiful hanok is just charming, which is different from the dazzling night view in the city center of Korea. Jeolla Gamyeong night tour is a walking tour starting from the front gate of the complex. The night tour available daily, only limited to 20 persons, and free of charge. That is an opportnity to grab 😻

#5 Jeonju Dreamland

Oh, wait! not just Hanok and Hanbok! Jeonju has so much more to offer. This is a retro-style amusement park! It is included in the BTS Summer Package. perfect place to hang out with family or friends~

Retro is a new style of traveling these days. Thus, this place also gets a lot of attention and it is the best idea to put it on your travel list while visiting Jeonju in the future. Not only feature a theme park but also there is a zoo and a beautiful green garden! Probably going to be a great place for a traveler with family and kids.

Cost: (Adults) 1 ride 3,000 won, 3 rides 7,000 won, 5 rides 10,000 won

Address: Jeonbuk Jeonju-si Deokjin-gu Sori-to 68

#6 Palbok Art Factory

This used to be a cassette tape factory in the past. It was abandoned for quite some time. Well, rather then it lefts untouched, this place has been transformed into an art space! What a great idea!

The once-abandoned area is now an art playground for children and locals. This place not only has outdoor art spaces but also provides facilities for teenagers and the public, in general, to spend their time doing beneficial activities.

Not only provides musical instruments but also art exhibitions, libraries, and cafes. This is the best example of utilizing unused space to unleash more talent and potential among children and anyone.
